THE TRADING APPROACH

Clear information. Defined terms. Accountable execution.

Mineral trading and supply require more than identifying a buyer and a seller. Each opportunity needs appropriate checks on material identity, specifications, origin documentation, counterparties, applicable trade requirements and delivery arrangements. Commercial commitments should reflect verified information, realistic availability and clearly agreed responsibilities throughout the transaction.

FROM SOURCE TO MARKET

Five disciplines for responsible mineral trade.

01

Mineral sourcing and supplier engagement

Identify potential suppliers and supply opportunities according to the mineral, required specifications, location and commercial objectives. Supplier identity, authority to sell, material origin and relevant supporting records should be assessed before commitments are made.

02

Product specifications and verification

Establish the product's identity, composition, grade where relevant, physical characteristics, impurities, sampling basis and testing requirements. Independent inspection or laboratory analysis may be appropriate depending on the mineral, transaction value and buyer requirements.

03

Counterparty and transaction due diligence

Conduct proportionate checks on buyers, suppliers, intermediaries, beneficial ownership where required, contractual authority and applicable compliance obligations. Clarify responsibilities, payment arrangements, dispute procedures and documentary requirements before executing a transaction.

04

Logistics and delivery coordination

Evaluate packaging, storage, handling, inland transport, export procedures, shipping arrangements, insurance and destination requirements as applicable. Delivery schedules and responsibilities should be agreed against the actual route, material, documentation and transport capacity.

05

Commercial documentation and follow-through

Coordinate the relevant contracts, specifications, inspection records, invoices, transport documents and regulatory paperwork. Maintain a clear record of agreed terms, material movement, outstanding obligations and communication between authorized parties.

TRADE GOVERNANCE

Trust is supported by verifiable controls.

01

Supplier and origin checks

Review appropriate identity, sourcing, ownership and origin records, with additional checks where the mineral or jurisdiction requires them.

02

Specification and quantity checks

Define the basis for sampling, testing, weighing and quantity reconciliation before loading, dispatch or acceptance.

03

Contract and payment clarity

Document pricing basis, currency, payment milestones, delivery terms, inspection arrangements and remedies for non-conformance.

04

Compliance and recordkeeping

Maintain appropriate transaction records and assess applicable licensing, customs, sanctions, anti-bribery and other legal requirements.

RESPONSIBLE MINERAL TRADE

Commercial opportunity must be matched by accountability.

Responsible trading includes attention to lawful sourcing, traceability, worker safety, environmental obligations and the interests of affected communities. Requirements differ by mineral, source, destination and transaction structure. Due diligence should be proportionate to the risks involved, and no supplier, origin, certification or compliance status should be represented as verified unless supporting evidence has been reviewed.

FOR BUYERS, SUPPLIERS & TRADE PARTNERS

Start with clear requirements and verifiable information.

Useful starting details include the mineral of interest, intended application, required specifications, target quantity, source or destination, delivery expectations, inspection requirements and preferred commercial terms. Availability, pricing, origin, quality, export eligibility and delivery commitments must be confirmed for each opportunity before they are presented as established facts.
